Exciting Events Around the Hood
Although peaceful and quiet in the evenings... a lot does go on around here.
Valley Tour, Fall 2000
In the Fall of
2000, Balboa Highlands was featured in an outstanding
architectural tour organized by the Los Angeles Conservancy
Modern Committee. " How Modern Was My Valley"
was conducted as an all day bus tour for the National
Trust for Historic Preservation and as a tour day self-driving
tour for the general public by the Conservancy.

The tour highlighted significant buildings constructed
in the San Fernando Valley from the 1940s through
the 1970s. Many of these buildings represent important
examples of Modern, Post-Modern and Googie architecture
designed by world renowned architects. Some of the variety
of architects featured on this tour include John Lautner,
Lloyd Wright, R.M. Schindler, Richard Neutra, Armet &
Davis and Bruce Goff. And the highlight of the tour was
a half day of open houses in the Balboa Highlands tract.

Modern homestead are some of Los Angeles' best kept treasures.
Those who went on the tour and even longtime residents
were be pleasantly surprised at the Mid Century Modern
architectural gems of the 40s, 50s, and 60s that still
exist, Especially the fabulous Eichler Homes!
